I think any outsider would look at our apartment in utter... confusion? hesitiation? withdrawl? Disturbance, that's the word. As we speak we're currently exchanging halarious "teacher stories" that could go on for days and listening to the King of Soul telling us to get up off our something... you really can't be sure. When we get home from school in the evenings that's all we 7 can find to talk about. i guess when that's your life that's pretty much all you can draw on. At FHE we found ourselves alienating everyone else, not purposely, but just cuz i think we're all excited at the discovery we've made that laughter is gonna be a huge part of this semester. I have the best roommates ever.
I'm beginning to teach more and more, mostly the small vocal classes but some in ensembles and theory. Watching the opera scenes class is the best part of my day, today they all did a skit where they had to say two lines and create a scene in several different ways; "i'm sorry, i can't marry you" and then "i understand." HOLY cow, it was incredible. and funny. if nothing else, when the stress of teaching gets high, i will certainly be able to laugh everyday. even if it's just Demetrius yelling "Hey Miz Clark!" in his best broadway belt.
I went to a DC United-SLC Real soccer game yesterday. DC won, i didn't know whether to be happy or not. But we got 2 tickets and 2 free meals from the scalpers for a whopping $7, that's all i had. pretty good deal i suppose. Too bad we had to witness this kid bash his head in at the end of the night as he tried to run down the up escalator, i'm pretty sure he was wasted and so when he fell, he knocked himself out, blood rushing from his head and mouth. A friend i was with hit the emergency stop but the security people, bless their hearts, after they chastised the poor knocked out man with a clearly separated shoulder and told the rest of us, "THIS is why you don't run up the down escalator!" (in a very slow, deliberate voice), they wouldn't let anyone go near him till the ambulance showed up! So this guy comes to and rolls around a little bit, only to find he probably has no front teeth and a gaping hole in his skull, but to no avial. Good thing they put up 2 of those little yellow "caution" signs. you know, the ones they put in the hallway at school when it's just been mopped. Yeah.
This week is the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival all over DC, nothing related to my school but amazing nonetheless. We're gonna hit up some of it this weekend, all the pros and a few people still alive from Dizzy Gillespie's original band. I have some planning for tomorroww...stay tuned. i hope all is well in whichever part of this world you're reading from. Peace
